Ostroleka 1831

Description

Ostrołęka 1831 recreates one of the most important battles of the November Uprising, fought on 26 May 1831 between the Polish army commanded by General Jan Skrzynecki and the Russian forces of Field Marshal Hans von Diebitsch. The fighting centred on the crossings over the River Narew, where the Poles attempted to stop the Russian advance. Despite determined resistance and a celebrated artillery action led by Józef Bem, the battle ended in a Polish defeat and forced the insurgent army to retreat towards Warsaw.
