Description
Queer Speed Bonding (QSB) is a queer re-imagining of “speed dating” without the "dating"... dismantling assumptions of heterosexuality, amatonormativity (prioritizing romance above friendship), monogamism (prioritizing certain kinds of relating/relationship escalator), or binary gender expectations. The design of speed bonding includes traditional dyadic interactions (two rotating sitting lines of people, 5 minutes of discussion then switch), as well as opportunities for group interactions. If anyone has mobility challenges, adjust the format to allow them to stay in one place but still participate. A list of queer/radical prompts below can be printed or otherwise made available to generate ideas for discussion. Of course, people are encouraged to talk about whatever they want and do not have to use the prompts. Unlike traditional speed dating, event organizers do not collect anyone's info, so it's up to attendees to share contact info with individuals as desired. Consent is important! Also, this is a monogamy critical event and will not enforce anyone's relationship rules. Additional suggestion: Have a station set up to write to incarcerated folks. It should include names, addresses, mail guidelines, paper, envelopes, writing utensils, and stamps. Write to them about their interests (if you know them), these prompts, or whatever else!
