Description

KINDRED is a queer solo journaling roleplaying game for anyone who has built family from scratch. You play a Keeper — a wanderer, a listener, a private historian — working for a small and mostly-secret Circle that records the sanctuaries queer folk built for one another. Bakeries. Taverns. Chapels. Grove-clearings and back rooms and reading rooms with the wrong books in the wrong drawer. Places the wider world tried not to see. Over thirteen assignments, you will draw a map for each sanctuary and write field notes beside it. At the end you will have a small handmade book: a record of the rooms that held people the world would not. ## What's inside - Thirteen sanctuary archetypes drawn from queer historical memory in a fantasy key — the Blue Door Bakery, the Two-Moon Tavern, the Grove of Chosen Kin, the Attic Above the Apothecary, the Silver Ring Circle, the Kithkin Hall, and more - Fifty-two prompts across four suits (♥ Who Was Kin, ♦ What Was Carried, ♣ What Was Made, ♠ What Was Endured) — one prompt per card, one map at a time - An Erasure Tally that measures the world's forgetting as you work - Six endings — some earned through the dice, some chosen by you - A worked example of a full sanctuary - Reflection prompts, a suggested playlist, and rules for playing in a small group ## What you need to play - One standard deck of 52 playing cards - One notebook or a stack of blank pages - A pencil, six six-sided dice, and an evening ## For whom For queer players — sapphic, gay, trans, bi, nonbinary, aro/ace, questioning — and for anyone who has been held by a chosen family, or has held one. You do not have to be queer to play this book, but this book is for us. If you have played *The Vanished Atlas*, *Alone Among the Stars*, *The Wretched*, *Apothecaria*, or any solo journaling RPG in the "one hand, one deck, one notebook" tradition, this will feel familiar. The engine here is close cousin to *The Vanished Atlas* — different theme, same shape. ## Format - 29-page PDF, print-ready at Letter and A4 - Screen version (soft rose/mulberry palette) + printer-friendly version - No VTT integration — this game asks you to close the laptop ## Honest disclosure The game text was drafted with AI assistance as a working tool, then reviewed and edited by a human author. The cover illustration was generated with AI and hand-composited with the title overlay. ## Hearth & Quill Press We make solo journaling RPGs for people who would rather play than prep. If KINDRED found something in you, you might also like: - The Vanished Atlas — a solo journaling RPG of places that aren't there anymore - The Hearthkeeper — of duty, memory, and slow winters - The Lighthouse Keeper — of tide, lost ships, and long watches - The Forest Keeper — of moss, vigil, and the sleeping gods *Draw slowly. The rooms were made carefully. You will be too.*
